Monk are ‘Caught in the darkly alluring orbit of Salford’s White Hotel, MONK channel pure rock ‘n’ roll through an arty, hard-hitting electro lens.’ Fighting Boredom have been listening to their debut EP, see what we think below.

For a debut release Fighting Boredom this is pretty good. You get three tracks here, a great big enormous epic in the making in ‘Get’ all quiet building intro and a foundation of electronics which goes into a great drawn out vocal with a message to sort yourself out. The gothy dark intro and mysterious sounding ‘It’s You’ with its feeling of loss and music that gets louder and builds darkly throughout the song. Finally you get the slow regretful  sounding slow burning ‘Golden Tongue’ which to Fighting Boredom is their best moment here.

Monk sound young and hungry, they sound like they have another bunch of songs just ready to go and I’ll be watching for an album to come through. This sounds like just the start of their music. Released on cassette with a download, it’s well worth a punt.

You can buy the tape from the Ramber Records site, Ramber Records also have a Facebook page.
